The Week Ahead - End of Term 3, 2023
Monday 18 September - Friday 22 September
From the Head of College
Dear Parents and Caregivers
It鈥檚 very fitting that the Year 12s are the focus of the College this week as they begin to wrap up their school journey in such great style this afternoon. I always look forward to seeing these young adults in all their finery as well as using these celebratory moments to affirm their parents in putting in a firm foundation by raising fine young people. Thank you to those staff who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this week鈥檚 events so special to honour our graduates and their families. I hope that those of you who will be in attendance will enjoy this afternoon鈥檚 鈥渁rrivals.鈥
The above changing of the guard is well and truly underway with our Senior College leaders for 2024 announced on Wednesday at their final assembly for the term. Congratulations to Emily Zeller and Charlie Pietsch on being announced as our College Captains for 2024. We look forward to supporting all our 2024 leaders as well as watching their growth along the way.
This week鈥檚 newsletter is my final article for 2023 as Sylvia and I begin to put the finishing touches to our Long Service Leave road trip through the USA next term. Thank you for your ongoing words of encouragement, loyalty and support of our great College.
Over the past year, we have surpassed so many expectations across so many areas of College life. These include the realigning of our Sports and Pastoral Care Programs, our strong Arts Program as well as mapping out a strategic direction as per our new Strategic Plan - Towards 2026. The start of 2023 also saw Concordia launch its new Vision statement Inspiring Lifelong Learners, Critical Thinkers and Caring Citizens in a Christian Community. An exciting next chapter in Concordia鈥檚 history is waiting us as we embark on our Master Plan timeline. As I look back on our journey at Concordia over the past 3 terms, we are reminded that change is constant and if we don鈥檛 move with the times as a College, we will be left behind.
Next term will see Mrs. Jackie Minnikin return from her well-deserved Long Service Leave break and take up role of Acting Head of College. I know that you will afford Jackie the same support and encouragement next term.
Thank you to the Hume Street students and staff for being such gracious hosts at today鈥檚 Grandparents鈥 Day celebrations. I hope that you enjoyed your time back at school today!
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing term break. My prayers and best wishes go with the College for the final school term of 2023.
Yours in Christ.
Mr Anton Prinsloo
Head of College
Quote of the Week [As we celebrate our grandparents]: Life humbles you as you grow old. You stop chasing the big things and start valuing the little things. Alone time, enough sleep, a good diet, long walks and quality time with loved ones. Simplicity becomes the ultimate goal. [Positive Outlooks]

WSC Gum Trees
During the holidays we will be doing some work around the WSC playground. Every year we have the Arborist visit to inspect the safety of our trees, the gum trees in particular. This year the Arborist has let us know that some of our gum trees are no longer safe for a playground. We will therefore be removing them over the holidays. We are currently in the planning mode of designing a forest learning space that will be used in the future by many Concordian students.

Hello to all our wonderful families at home.
This week has been an exciting one for all. Our Year 12 Recognition dinner was celebrated with Parents, Teachers, and Boarding staff. The meal prepared by the kitchen was sensational. Thank you again to the Kitchen staff. Year 9 and 10 provided the fabulous table service, Andrew and Maureen navigated the order of speakers.
Boarder Captains for 2024 were announced yesterday and Congratulations to Kerri Stiller and Khan Sturt Cummings. Our traditional Boarder Captain handover was performed last night by Mason and George.
As houseparents we feel a sense of pride when students come to the end of their journey, Knowing.
that they have become confident, mature, caring young people who are ready for the Real world.
There is a very close bond with students in the brother and sisterhood of Concordia. This was extremely evident last night. Tears of sadness and tears of excitement rained down. Emotions were high.
Closure is coming for those year 12 鈥榮 and after Valedictory Dinner on Friday it will be back into their study, regaining focus for the upcoming exams. Enjoy your break Year 12.
We also bid farewell to Ayaka this week and wished her all the best on returning home to Japan. We hope you can return one day soon. You will be missed.
Toowoomba Festival of Flowers is currently on in Toowoomba and our students enjoyed a stroll in the gardens on the weekend. A mass of brilliant colour.
We have lots of pic for you all to view this week. Hope you enjoy them.
