Dear Parents and Caregivers
I hope that you have found the adjustment to the first full working week of Term 2 okay. Personally, I found that the week has gone by fairly quickly and here we are at Friday afternoon again. What I did find difficult was the 鈥渨elcome to Winter鈥 on Monday morning after being down on the coast last weekend and experiencing temperatures of around 26 degrees. Thank you for your support in ensuring that your student[s] still present well dressed in their college uniform as they include additional layers to keeping warm.

Concordia will be volunteering at parkrun this Saturday 13 May. We meet at Lindsay street at 6:45am for 7am start. Link:
This is a call out to all Concordia students, staff, and family members to show our School spirit and participate at this fun, inclusive family friendly event. Don鈥檛 forget to wear your Concordia sports shirt and hat. Maybe even lend a hat to your parents…
No pressure to run, you are also welcome to either walk or jog the 5km course. Prams are welcome as well as the family dog if kept on a short leach.
I am excited to be Run Director on the day and most of the volunteers will be from our Concordia Family. If you would like to volunteer for the event, I would love to see you in person and can be found most days at the SSC Health Centre. From the Director of Pastoral Care and Wellbeing
As our children grow older and become adolescents, they will want to become more independent and are more inquisitive about the world around them. Our role as parents has been to provide a safe and supportive environment for our children that protects them from any concerning outside influences. Gradually, adolescents will start to become more exposed to outside influences and potential risk-taking behaviours. Ensuring adolescents are well-informed about social issues and equipping them with the necessary skills on how to handle these situations are vital toward ensuring they feel confident in making the right decisions.
CLC Track and Field Sports News
Today we held our annual wrap up and presentations of Age Champion Medals for Track and Field achievements in 2023. All students must be commended for their enthusiasm and resilience alongside some great sportsmanship on the day. This was evident by a number of records being broken in various events and students recording their own PBs throughout the Carnival.
While the presentation was about celebrating individual achievements our Carnival was an opportunity to have a go and have some fun along the way. From our youngest Year 3 student to our oldest Year 12 student, I am happy to say this was evident on many occasions and I would like to congratulate all the boys and girls on their efforts. Well done!
From this carnival, many of our athletes will be named to represent Concordia 女女视频 College both in the Central Zone and Queensland Combined Independent Schools (QCIS) teams to compete in each event. Students will commence training soon for these competitions which will be held in Term 3 with our sports coaches in their chosen events. We wish them every success in their efforts at these carnivals.
Thank you all once again to all for the support on these days to make it a great experience for all concerned. A special mention to our staff who worked tirelessly on the day, along with grounds staff in their preparation of the ovals. Thank you also to the parents and friends of the College who turned up in mass to show their support for their children on the day. I am sure that the children appreciated this.
Congratulations to the following students on their achievements for Track and Field. There were some extremely close results in many of the age divisions.

QCIS Cross Country
Our Concordia Team performed exceptionally well and placing 2nd overall. The following age groups won their event - Under 10yrs Girls, Under 11yrs Boys and Under 13yrs Girls. The Team's efforts allowed us to come 1st in the Percentage Points.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated.
Cricket
Concordia attended the Opens Streetsmart Cricket Gala Day today. The Team scored well in each game.
CLC 200 runs defeated St Mary's 153
CLC 209 runs defeated Harristown 121
CLC 170 runs defeated Centenary Heights 90
They have now qualified for the finals on Wednesday 31 May. We wish you well in the finals.

JC Book Fair
JC IPSHA Chess Tournament - Wednesday 17 May
Each year selected students attend our IPSHA (Independent Primary Schools Heads Association) Chess Tournament which is hosted by Concordia鈥檚 Hume Street Campus. Our students will be competing against like minded students from Grammar, Fairholme, Toowoomba Christian College, Glennie, Highlands and TAS. Our students have been practicing diligently and are looking forward to the challenge of competing against other talented players.

The Junior College Years 3-6 Ball Games will be held on Friday 26 May at each Campus from 1.30pm-3pm.
JC Uniforms
As the weather begins to cool and the leaves change colour, schools across the country begin the process of transitioning from their summer to winter uniform. The changeover to winter uniform can bring a sense of excitement and anticipation as students get to experiment with new outfits and styles. It can also be a challenge for families who may need to invest in new pieces of clothing to ensure their child is properly dressed for the colder weather. Despite these challenges, the changeover to winter uniform is an important annual tradition that helps students prepare for the upcoming season and creates a sense of community and unity within the school.
This time presents a great opportunity to review our uniform guide. A few points to note that have been conservations on recent assembly or in classrooms are…
路 Monday is our formal uniform day regardless of weather unless notified by College.
路 Sport shoes are navy or white and worn only with sport uniform.
路 Layering under uniform is fine as long as we can鈥檛 see it.
路 Woollen jumper is worn with formal uniform or with sport under the jacket.
路 Jacket can be worn with either uniform.
路 Hoodie and track suit top is only worn with sport uniform.
路 There is a formal pant option for the girls sold at the uniform shop.
路 Girls may wear socks or navy tights with formal skirt.
路 Orders for uniforms, may be phoned through to the uniform shop and items will be delivered to the Junior Campus.
路 Indigenous shirts may be worn with sport uniform on a Wednesday.

JC Reading Challenge 2023

This term we are having a Junior College House Reading Challenge. You may have noticed that your child has brought home a template for a book review or a Lego character template. Please encourage them to fill in this sheet to the best of their ability. There is no limit to how many each student is allowed to submit. I am giving away 6 x $10 gift vouchers at each campus to spend at the Scholastic Book Fair to the best efforts I receive next week.
The countdown is on to the Scholastic Book Fair and National Simultaneous Storytime. Next week, the products will all be arriving and the students will have an opportunity to browse the selection and fill in a wish list to take home and discuss with their families. An invitation will also be sent home with all students as a reminder of the days and times the fair is open at each campus. The support for this event last year was amazing so I am looking forward to seeing how successful our annual Book Fair is this year.

Hi to all our boarder families.
Week 4 has passed with a chilly introduction to winter. The students have felt the change dramatically. Many not having enough warm clothes to get them through this cold snap. This will be a reminder to you all that here in Toowoomba it gets bitterly cold very quickly. Please check with your sons and daughters to make sure they are all suitably outfitted with warm clothes for the months to come. We can only do so much. It鈥檚 time to bring out the winter woollies, track pants, hoodies, beanies, scarves, Ugg boots, slippers and warm PJ鈥檚. COVID and influenza are still around so please encouraging your child to let us know if they have any symptoms or simple feel out of sorts.
