The Week Ahead - End of Term 4
Friday 27 November 2020
From the Head of College
This past school year has been a remarkable twelve months for Concordia 女女视频 College. The College has continued to develop and to position itself for the years ahead, despite the challenges that our school, country and global communities have faced.
Over the past week we have celebrated together on many levels. The support across the College community has been extraordinary and I pass on thanks to extended families, staff and students for a superb effort in recent days and throughout the year. We have celebrated the Christmas story with our students, discussed the hope and joy that comes with the birth of a young child in a manger, and immersed ourselves in the love and support that is a core value of our Concordia Christian community. Congratulations, one and all!
The next few days presents a time for teaching staff to complete reports, all staff to tidy matters remaining from this year, and a chance to begin planning for the next twelve months. A reminder to parents and carers that the Business and Enrolment Offices of the College will remain open until Wednesday 23 December, and the Business Office reopens on Monday 4 January 2021. The final video message for 2020 is scheduled for release early next week, and I ask everyone in our community to keep an eye out for this release.
Finally, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a relaxing and safe holiday. After a year that can only be described as extraordinary, I take this opportunity to wish you a Christ-filled Christmas and a New Year that is brimful of hope, peace and joy.
鈥楩or unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord鈥.
[Luke 2:11]
Every blessing.

It has been a year of challenges that has created many problem-solving moments, as well as some out of the box thinking and teamwork. Students, parents and staff have all had to dig deep to rise above the disappointments and I believe we will all be stronger for the growth we have exhibited. I do sincerely thank every staff member for the extreme amount of work and effort put into this year. I also thank the students for being such great learners. The achievements have been very impressive.
Lastly but not least, I would like to thank the parents. You have been parent, teacher and supporter this year, and you have made an unusual year, much easier through your understanding, appreciation and encouragement. We do pray that each family and staff member is able to take time this holiday break to rest and recuperate. Have a blessed Christmas Season, remembering that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Year 6
We have had an amazing time this week celebrating our Year 6 students. We are very proud of them and the way they have held their heads high this year. At our dinner this week, Mrs Loretta Cullinan presented the Parent Address. Below is a copy of her address very cleverly written as a poem. We loved it so much, we wanted to share it with you.
My job tonight is to represent the parents of this class
The ones who bought your uniforms and prayed for you to pass,
They packed your lunch and brushed your hair and waved you off each day
They鈥檝e watched you grow and make new friends while fees they had to pay.
If we look back at where it began in two thousand fourteen
We鈥檒l remember just how small you were, but you were super keen
Little faces lined up in prep, discovering new things
The joy of books and alphabets and gluing carboard and bits of string.
As you grew and advanced along to enter to Year 1
That鈥檚 when we met Dr Seuss and your rhyming days begun
We could not, would not in a box escape Green Eggs and Ham
We couldn鈥檛 even hide from you reading aloud to all the fam.
By Year 2 and 3 you had really settled in,
Under 8s, Christmas for the Bush and more gluing things to tin.
Year 4 was sports carnivals, school camp and secret agent counterparts
German, chess, some music and more gluing things in art.
In Year 5 we realised just how quickly time had passed,
Our numbers had reduced a bit, we had a smaller class
Your Homework tasks sometimes were beyond a parent鈥檚 comprehension
I was Googling answers, more times than I should mention.
Then in Year 6 COVID hit and ruined all your plans
Homeschooling, social-distancing, and your Canberra trip was canned.
But you soldiered on in your final year led by Mrs B and Mr T
And, of course, we can鈥檛 forget headmistress Mrs P
How proud we are of each of you, beginning with Caitlin and Josh C
The valiant school captains of this 2020 calamity.
Torin, Nathan, Tyler and Ben you all can take a bow
You鈥檝e made it through to high school, there鈥檚 no stopping you now!
Oliver, Chloe, Kaite and Chelsea a huge applause is coming your way
How exciting to look forward to secondary school's first day
Holly, Bella and Makayla you deserve a standing ovation.
Primary school is done, now on to the next step of your education.
Christian and Lachlan, Savanna and Maddy, Josh W and Will
Prepare to meet new teachers who will inspire you still
And finally, my special favourite, Paige you are the best
But, I鈥檓 your mother so I guess I鈥檓 prejudiced!
And a big shout out to Mr Wiles, all the teachers, aides and staff
We鈥檙e so thankful for the support you鈥檝e given to this fabulous Year 6 class
This tragic poem can鈥檛 express the gratitude that is essential
May you continue to nurture and encourage future kids' potential.
Sadly, for some parents our Primary School days are done,
No more Hume Street Campus just the high school drop and run,
And as I look around the room, I know how truly blessed we are
For the kids we鈥檝e raised and friends we鈥檝e made 鈥 we are superstars!
The learning doesn鈥檛 stop here, there鈥檚 so much more to know.
These primary years were just the start, you still have far to go.
But no matter what the future brings, with everything you do
Give it your very best shot and be proud that you are you.
To conclude 鈥楤e strong and courageous鈥 for this next step that you take.
Your gluing days may be over 鈥 but Dr Seuss you鈥檒l never shake.
Look forward to 2021 as you grow more in your knowledge
Remember how lucky you are to be a part of Concordia 女女视频 College

鈥淎lone we can do so little, together we can do so much鈥
These are the words that are central to our WSC Wall of Fame this week. As you can see in the picture below, our Wall of Fame is now adorned with sketches of all our WSC staff team, thanks to the efforts of Mr John Trappett and Mr David Heuschele 鈥 and what a team they are!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their tireless efforts this year. It has been a year of challenges, but this amazing, dedicated group of people stepped up to the challenge positively, professionally and continued to get the job done. Your Christmas break is truly well-deserved.
It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is here. We are all incredibly proud of our students at WSC, and I would like to congratulate them on another successful school year. I would also like to wish those who are leaving our community, all the best for your future endeavours and hope that you will look fondly on your time spent at Concordia.
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, Christmas blessings to you all and I look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Heuschele Award
Mrs Mary Heuschele was a teacher at Concordia Primary for 22 years and established the 鈥淗euschele Award for Citizenship in a School Setting鈥. This award is presented to a student who shows a positive attitude, respect to both staff and other students and who generally tries to behave in a way that is fitting for a student in a Christian school.
As a society we always recognise the achievements which our students have made in the academic field, musically and on the sporting field. This award acknowledges the relevance of a courteous, good-natured, God-centred outlook and we should remember that all our other achievements are also only possible by God鈥檚 grace.
This award recognises a student who has consistently displayed this loving concern and respect for others.
Congratulations to Bruce Omanga on receiving this award in 2020.

鈥淚 have come that they might have life and have it to the full.鈥
John 10:10
Many of us over the course of this year, have had aspects of our usual 鈥渇ull lives鈥 pared back in some shape or form. A holiday that we couldn鈥檛 take, a change in routines, sporting and cultural pleasures adjusted, impacted businesses and the list goes on. As I reflect on the year that has been, it has certainly been a year of change, growth and the overuse of words such as 鈥渦nprecedented鈥 and 鈥渘ew normal鈥. It is a year certainly worthy of some reflection.
Ironically, many of the changes that have occurred this year were already poised for implementation in 2020. MS Teams, the transition of all our Years 7 to 12 assessment processes to our Learning Management System via Student Caf茅 and Parent Lounge, visible feedback on all assessment items and the list goes on. Managing this level of change does have its challenges and I sincerely thank all our staff, parents and most importantly, students, for the way that have embraced and pushed forward with this work. This year has allowed us to position our College in a very enviable position from which we can launch into 2021.
So, as we ease into the Christmas season, I pray that this year might be extra special as we come together as families and join with friends to celebrate the birth of Jesus and give thanks for the gifts of hope, grace and peace that He brings.
