The Week Ahead - Term 1, Week 2
Monday 1 February to Friday 5 February 2021
From the Head of College
Welcome to the first edition of The Week Ahead for the 2021 school year. It is my prayer that all in our school community have had a relaxing and well-deserved break and that everyone is looking towards an exciting year.
This year is the Concordia 女女视频 College 75th Anniversary and we look forward to the celebrations. The first event will be with students and staff on 15 February when we will celebrate the 鈥榦fficial鈥 first day dedication of the College (13 February 1946). Other celebrations for our wider community are scheduled for the second half of the year in the hope that conditions will allow for an easing of restrictions.
As we start the year, there are a few matters to bring to your attention:
1.Staffing update
2.Learning in Residence
3.General news
4.Child Protection Policy and Procedures
As with any year, we are excited to welcome several new staff members. Welcome to Stephen Street teaching staff: Ms Natalie Houston (Years 11/12 Coordinator), Ms Rachel Scott, Ms Angela Sten (Head of Department English), Ms Tonya Fietchner, Mr Shanaal De Zoysa, Ms Sandra Hewett and Ms Alexandra Morton. We also welcome Ms Alissa Turner to our Hume Street Campus teaching staff. Every blessing to our new and continuing staff as they continue to make a difference in the classrooms at Concordia 女女视频 College.
As indicated at the end of last year, the College has commissioned a wide-ranging study into the 鈥楲earning in Residence鈥 program, with a view to investigating how we can best meet the educational and residential requirements of those families considering boarding for their children.
The COVID-19 challenges have given us a new insight into what 21st century residential programs may look like and I am looking forward to presenting the report to Council in June 2021. Mr Darren Pope has been asked to guide this investigation on behalf of the College and I publicly thank him for his willingness to lead this critical project.
- At our Scholars Assembly on Monday 1 February, we will recognise our outstanding students from 2021. As the QCE ATAR becomes established, such assemblies will become high points during which student achievement will be celebrated. I am keenly interested to find out what pathways our 2020 Senior students are taking in 2021 and beyond.
- Enrolment for 2022 is now underway. In 2021, we have had a 6% increase in student numbers with both Prep classes being full and Year 7, 2021 becoming the largest class at the Stephen Street Campus.
- Academic scholarship applications 2022 - Please note that scholarship applications for next year close on Monday 8 February 2021. Details are to be found under Enrolments/Scholarships on the College鈥檚 website.
- COVID-19 reminders 鈥 we are all reminded of the basic health practices introduced in 2020. Wash and sanitise hands, social distancing for adults, coughing and sneezing into the elbow (or tissue) and correct disposal of the tissue, along with hand washing, are all now regular and expected practices.
I also remind parents that students must not attend school if they are unwell. Students need to be tested and isolated should they show any COVID-19 symptoms and a return to school should only occur after a negative result has been received. Your understanding and support will continue to ensure that our community remains safe.
I ask that all members of our community become aware of the important 鈥樷 available on the College website. It is important to note that Child Protection is everyone鈥檚 business, and any inappropriate behaviour that relates to Child Protection will be dealt with by the College using the stated guidelines. Any questions that relate to such matters should be directed in the first instance to the Head of College.
Kind regards and every blessing
Mr Adrian Wiles

Loop Book Club Orders
A note about Book Club
Welcome to all our new families and welcome back to our continuing families. The first issue of Book Club is coming home over the next few days. The Junior campuses use LOOP (Linked Ordering and Online Payment). For those who are unfamiliar with it, here鈥檚 what you need to know:
LOOP enables parents to order and pay for their child鈥檚 book club order online.
LOOP does NOT apply to those parents wishing to pay for their order with cash 鈥 those orders will continue as before with the form being submitted to either Mrs Lynch or Mrs Paynter.
To order through LOOP, go to , register and set up an online profile with a password.
You can add your child鈥檚 name and select their class and, by entering the 4350 postcode, you will be able to select their school from the drop down box.
The Junior campuses are set up as Concordia Hume Street Campus and Concordia Warwick St Campus.
It is so easy and straightforward that even I had no trouble with it (old dog, new trick).
Once your order is submitted, I will confirm the order at the cut-off date and the books will arrive at the school in due course. Please do be mindful of the cut-off date written on the front of each catalogue. After this time, on-line ordering will close.
I think I have covered everything but for more information, follow this link:

Camp Quality will introduce us as a school community to the topic of cancer and help us to understand ways we can support our classmate through this journey.
An information sheet is attached for you to read through in case your child comes home with any questions.

From the Director
Welcome back to 2021! I hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year.
On behalf of the staff at WSC, I would like to welcome our returning students and families, as well as extending a special welcome to the students and families who have just joined our Concordia 女女视频 College family. We were thrilled to welcome you all back on campus this year and it was wonderful to chat to everyone at our Ready, Set, Go and Welcome Back afternoon on Wednesday.
After many years of fundraising by our P&F, our new playground was finally unveiled this week. What an effort it has been by everyone in our whole community to make this happen for our students. There was great excitement yesterday as the students were able to test it out for the very first time. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this project. A special thank you must also go to one of our new parents, Mr Danny Cook. Danny is one of the Managing Directors of Cooper Commercial who was responsible for building our playground.
While I am thanking people, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to our staff for all their efforts in starting off the year. The teachers have worked tirelessly making sure their classrooms were organised and ready for our students. Our Reception and support staff have also been busy working behind the scenes to ensure a smooth start to 2021.
This year we welcome back Mrs Emma Stewart to our Warwick Street Staff. Emma will be teaching in Year 3 two days a week this year while Mr Trappett takes Visual Arts across both Junior College campuses. We also welcome Mrs Kellie Heilig who will be working as a Teacher Assistant on a Thursday. We wish you both a wonderful start to 2021.
As always, a school year is full of great learning and many exciting events. 2021 at WSC will be no different and we look forward to sharing all of these things with you.
Before and After School Supervision
Supervision commences each day at 8am. When students arrive at school they are able to put their bags on the port racks outside their classroom and then go to the bottom oval to play. Students are not permitted at school before 8am. Our school day commences at 8.30am. Students who arrive after 8.30am will need to be signed in at Reception.
Students are supervised after school in the Drive Through area until 3.30pm. If you are walking onto the grounds to pick up your child but are running late, they will be taken to the Drive Through area to wait.
Drive Through
Just a reminder that our Drive Through area is for pick up and drop off only. This area is NOT FOR PARKING during these times. It is a 鈥楰iss and Drop鈥 and pick up zone only. Parents must not park and leave their car in the Drive Through in the morning as it blocks the driveway for other vehicles and creates parking issues. This must remain a safe area for all of our students to use. Parents must not walk between cars in the Drive Through, please use the pedestrian crossing at the top of the Drive Through. We appreciate your assistance with this.

Known and Loved
Welcome and welcome back to Stephen Street Campus for 2021. With close to 70 students who are new to our campus, there is certainly a buzz in the air. We look forward to seeing each of them become involved in the life of the College as they launch into this next chapter of life.
I have spoken to staff and students around the thought of what it might mean to be fully known and fully loved. There is a 鈥淕od thought鈥 in all of this, in that we are each fully known by God and unconditionally loved. As humans, we tend to choose all sorts of emotions in responses to each other instead of love. My challenge to our community is that we choose to lean towards love, patience, kindness, gentleness and the truth. As our College song reminds us, each one of us is on a journey and it is truly a privilege to share and celebrate each other鈥檚 journey.
2021 will see Stephen Street Campus continue to refine and build on making all aspects of learning and teaching visible. Our Learning Management System, visible in Student Caf茅 and Parent Lounge, and Microsoft Teams have reshaped the way that we deliver learning and assessment.
As I write this, assessment tasks and learning resources will have been populated into these platforms which can be accessed anywhere, anytime. As parents and guardians, I encourage you to spend some time with your children and ask them to take you on a guided tour through these two platforms. Results and feedback from all assessment items are visible to parents and students from when teachers finalise their marking.
Next week will be bookended by two exciting events. On Monday we will be holding our third Scholars' Assembly. This year will be our biggest so far as we are joined by our highest achieving students from the Class of 2020. Merit Awards, Academic Excellence, Overall Excellence and College Dux will be presented. We will be joined by past student, Kathleen Jennings, author and illustrator, and look forward to hearing more of her story as she shares this with us.
On Friday, we will be holding the Inter-House Swimming Carnival. The SSC carnival will start at 1.30pm and finish at 5.30pm. However, students may choose to leave from the end of the school day if they are not competing. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate parent spectators due to the COVID-19 restrictions that are in place for the Aquatic Centre.
Have a great weekend.

Director of Campus
Learning and Innovation
Welcome parents to the 2021 academic year. I look forward to a fantastic year of learning and teaching at Concordia.
If you have any curriculum or learning issues that occur for your child during the year, please contact the subject teacher in the first instance. The Head of Department should then be the next step for you if you need to make teachers aware of any concerns that are occurring for your child in their learning journey.
There are a number of forms that can assist students in applying for an extension due to an illness and misadventure, exam changes and change of subject forms. All forms are available at Student Reception.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the Subject Information Evening and the Elevate Study Skills Parent Session which will be held during the next few weeks.
