Food, coffee and drinks will also be available for purchase outside next to the Church Theatre and Armitage Centre Bar between 4.30pm to 6pm. Parents and caregivers can collect their child's artwork at 6pm. Please drop in for a visit, browse or stay to be entertained as we celebrate the incredible talents of our students. I look forward to seeing you there.

From the College Pastor

A busy time鈥

Term 3 is certainly getting busy! Last week I had the privilege to attend (and co-lead) a LEQ ministry personnel day in Brisbane, that helped us to further unpack and reflect on the input received at the ACLE conference. One of the College ministry teams shared their framework for ministry which enabled the rest of the group to reflect on our individual approaches. It鈥檚 always wonderful to gather with colleagues to share and to learn from one another. Our life-long learning mantra does not just apply to students but to all of us here at Concordia.

Congratulations to our many drama students from across the College who performed in the Drama Eisteddfod. It鈥檚 wonderful to witness your courage as you performed on the stage at the Empire Theatre, some for the very first time. To those who received places, Bravo!

Concordia Sports Survey

At Concordia, we are committed to enhancing our sports offering to our students. It was clear from the recent MMG survey that was completed by our parents, students and staff that this is an area that our community is passionate about too.

In order to develop a sound strategy to develop sport at Concordia, we recognise that before we can determine how best to serve our community through sport, we must first gather information about what sports our students are currently participating in and have a desire to participate in.

We ask all families to complete the following survey for children who are students at Concordia. Many thanks to everyone who has already completed the survey.

If your family has a child starting with Concordia in 2023, please feel welcome to complete the survey for them too, using the year level they will be in next year.

The survey has been deliberately formulated to be quick and easy to complete. We estimate it should take you a maximum of 1-2 minutes.

Here is the link to the survey:

Project Based Learning at Concordia

Junior College

From the Junior College Directors

Stepping outside the classroom and getting on a bus to go to school camp can often come with mixed emotions. As we farewelled our Year 5 students this week to head off to a brand new camp site for us, many different emotions were evident. Some were a little anxious, others were bursting with excitement and some just weren鈥檛 too sure how to feel!

School camps are an important part of the curriculum and give students opportunities to learn new skills, develop independence and expand their friendships. Students and teachers seeing each other in a different environment enables them to further build on their relationships which in turn enhances student learning. As the bus pulls into HSC this afternoon I鈥檓 sure there will be some tired faces but also many stories to tell 鈥 from both students and teachers!

JC Year 6 Cairns Trip - Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program

Our JC Year 6 class will depart and head to Cairns for Week 9 of this term.

To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Queensland Government, through the Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program, provided a subsidy to the school of $150.00 per student who will be attending the excursion.

We wish all of our Year 6 students, their teachers and our parent helpers, a safe trip. We look forward to following them each day through their Seesaw blogs.

JC Library News

As we are getting closer to our 2022 Children鈥檚 Book Council of Australia Book Week celebrations, it is timely to remind you of the activities planned for that week. Wednesday 24 August is when we host our annual book parade. Students and staff all come to school dressed as a character from a book on this day and we gather together to parade our fabulous costumes and then share a story with our buddies. If students have a copy of the book they have modelled their costume on, we encourage them to bring it to share the story with their buddy.

Our Pyjama Storytime for Kindy, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be held on Tuesday 23 August at Warwick Street Campus and Thursday 25 August at the Hume Street Campus.

The students are all getting very excited and really looking forward to these wonderful events that we have to celebrate the amazing Australian authors, illustrators and publishers. We are fortunate to have many of the books that have been nominated as CBCA Notables and Shortlisted books in the various categories and look forward to the Winner and Honour books being announced on Friday 19 August.

JC Sports News & Update

QCIS Track and Field
Our Junior College students have been very busy representing Concordia over the past few weeks in many Track and Field carnivals. Our comprehensive Track and Field programs began mid Term 1 and the QCIS Track and Field Carnival was the culminating event for this season鈥檚 program. Monday 1 August, over 20 of our Junior College athletes competed at the annual QCIS carnival at Downlands College in less than favourable conditions.

Throughout the day they competed in 100m, 200m, 800m, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus and relays. Our students proudly represented our College and must be commended for some outstanding efforts in a variety of events, with numerous athletes placing in the top three throughout this competition. While our focus was on doing our very best, the experience of the day competing and having fun was paramount and it was great to see so many students enjoying each other鈥檚 company, while making new acquaintances along the way through some healthy competition from other schools at this event.

Stephen Street Campus

From the Director of Campus

It was a great start to this week with our Year 6 students from Warwick Street and Hume Street Campuses joining us for the day at Stephen Street Campus. This was an opportunity for the Year 6 students to see what a day in high school looks like, and added to this, they had the ability to join our assembly and become a part of the celebratory culture that we are so proud of. We welcome the Year 6 students back on Monday for a second experience day, where they will have a science lesson in CSI, and take on the Year 7 students in a friendly (but also fierce) game of soccer.

Elevate Parent Handbook

The topics of children鈥檚 motivation, how to manage and deal with stress and how to assist you child in preparing and performing in exams was delivered at the recently held Elevate Parent Information Evening. Elevate have also provided a parent handbook to enable parents to help with the topics covered in that session. I would encourage you to share and use this information with your children to assist them with these important aspects of learning. There are some great ideas included in this handbook.

Concordia works in partnership with Elevate to provide strategies, skills and to provide current information for our students on how to effectively study, retain information and manage exams. I would strongly encourage you to join the free sessions which Elevate offers to parents throughout the year and are delivered online. They provide valuable and relevant information to assist your children.

Year 8 Camp Reflections

Camp was a great experience. We did a lot of good activities including mountain biking, archery, canoeing, catapulting and crate stacking. But by far, my favourite activity was orienteering because although we got lost, we had an amazing time. One of the more challenging activities was abseiling as I was a bit scared at first but eventually it was easy. The instructors were super nice to us which made the time we spent at Camp Laurence even better. Sofia Balderson

Boarding News

Hello there to all our families. The weeks are flying by, and we are at the end of Week 5 - halfway!

Unfortunately plans for the boys' camping trip have had to be put on hold due to the bad weather threat. Our girls' trip to Brisbane has also been put on hold as well due to school and sporting commitments this weekend.

The Year 11 Camp will go ahead on Monday and these students are looking forward to getting out of the dorms.

Last Sunday we had a Mocktail Night and the students created a wonderful fun atmosphere with a Hawaiian theme which many participated in. A great time was had by all.

Hope you all enjoy the pics.
